They have also made fabulous snow flags that were placed on the windows. The children have done drawings of different towers, including The Sky Tower.
Last, but not least, the children had a fantastic time doing construction using all the different kinds of materials available.

Some Tips About Your Fees

* Fees are due on the 1st of each month, in advance, for the following months charges. Please make sure that you make ONE payment for the FULL amount of the invoice and not part payments. If you are consistently late with fees a 10% penalty will incur.

* Please ensure you pay by eftpos or direct credit only. NOT CASH OR CHEQUES. This creates a banking problem for us as well as a concern for safety as we would prefer not to hold any cash/cheques on the premises.

* Fees can be paid to either our Office Administrator - Mona, Shona or one of the Head Teachers - Sonia, Molly or Oriana. There is always one of these people in the Centre at the beginning or end of the day so please approach them with your payments.

* We cannot do swap days as our rolls are at full capacity and please remember fees are still paid on public holidays. The only time fees are not payable are at Christmas when the Centre closes for approximately three weeks.

* Any changes to hours must be done with an amendment form being completed and two weeks notice given.

Thank you to those parents who always pay regularly and on time.

Use of baby walkers and jumping aids

A message to all Nursery parents

The first three years of your child's life are probably the most important in terms of preparation for formal learning and movement. It is important that your child gets plenty of stimulating time on the floor (including time on their back and tummy) and is encouraged to move around freely.

To this end the use of baby walkers, jumping aids and all baby accessories that confine a child's movements are not suitable. Baby walkers, in particular take up precious time that could be spent on the floor, gaining body awareness, control and strength. there are very real dangers associated with baby walkers as they make a young child mobile much earlier than is normal or developmentally necessary. your child now has ready access to stairs, steps, uneven surfaces, stoves, open fires, heaters, tabletops and bench tops. Injuries (mainly to the head) occur as the baby walker tips easily and the child has little control. Apart from tipping easily, baby walkers can be detrimental to the development of your child's muscles. As with the bouncing aid, if the heels are not flat when pushing from the floor surface, this may shorten the Achilles tendon and create a toe walking action when the child is learning to walk without support.

Without a doubt, the safest and most educational place for your young baby to be is on the floor. This is our practice in the Nursery and we encourage you to do the same in the home.

kind regards

Shona

Preschool News

Time is moving so fast. When quite a few older children left for primary school, we started to meet our new preschoolers, all of whom are doing really well. They are learning the routines, customs and making new friends rapidly. In the last week, we had Pyjama Day. All the teachers were so pleased to see our children wear their snuggly, warm pyjamas and showed each other their cuddly toys. Even one of our dads joined in the fun of Pyjama Day. All of us have had a fabulous week with lots of laughter and fun. See attached photos of the two links below.

News From The Nursery

It has been a busy couple of weeks with children moving from room to room. We farewelled Francesca, Jasper S. and Liam to the Toddler Room, where they will soon be followed by 8 more of their friends who are also turning two. June and July will be busy months for us as we try to transition all of our children over. This process includes lots of visits, increasing in length, until the children are ready to move. If your child is one of those turning two in July pop into the Toddler Room and meet the teachers if you haven't already. Incoming, we have had Axel visiting the Tuatara Room in preparation for his start next week, while in the Pukeko Room, Baby Lennix has been relaxing and getting to know his new friends.
The winter weather has set in so please make sure that your children have enough warm sets of clothes as we are getting rather dirty exploring outside in this weather.

Nursery wait list

We have some spaces available in our Nursery due to parents deferring over the next couple of months. If you have your baby on our wait list or you know someone who is anxious to get a space some time in the near future please come and see Shona. As our wait list is normally a year, this is an unusual occurence and we are not expecting the offer to last long as I am sure we will fill these spaces very soon.

Staff Changes

We have a couple of changes coming up in our staffing. Jade will be sadly leaving us. She is moving to a centre on the North Shore. Her last day will be Friday, 12th June 2009. Good luck Jade with your new job.
We have a new teacher coming in to Preschool on Monday, 6th July 2009. Her name is laura Evans and she is a newly qualified graduate, who has also done a Degree in Communications. We warmly welcome Laura to Bayfield!
Naturally all of this will cause a change around relieving staff. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask Shona.
